Leyla Caynak for Tryon International

Mill Spring, NC - July 3, 2025 - Kristen VanderVeen (USA) continued her successful Summer Series at Tryon International and qualified both her mounts for the jump off during the $32,000 LeMieux Welcome Stake CSI 3* on Thursday. Receiving top honors was Bull Run’s Celestial (Cicero Z Van Paemel x Numero Uno), the 2015 Zangersheide stallion owned by Bull Run Jumpers Inc., completing the jump off with a time of 39.94 seconds. Alejandro Leonardo Winkler (MEX), owner and rider of Flagship De Hus (Windows VH Costersveld x Fergar Mail), the 2015 Selle Francais mare, walked away with reserve honors after their double clear efforts in a time of 42.32. Earning third place was Mia Marano’s 2016 Holsteiner gelding, Crusher RW (Crumble x Unknown), with rider Michael Walton (USA) and a time of 48.37 seconds in the jump off and adding six faults along the way.

Opting to withdraw her second mount from the jump off and placing fourth, VanderVeen commented, “It was a nice option to have a good placing on that horse [Bull Run’s Jireh] and not have to jump him off. I still wanted another round with Celestial before the Grand Prix, so we decided to do the jump off with him, and that was great!”

Explaining her rounds with Bull Run’s Celestial, she elaborated, “we also happened to be trying a new bridle today, and I think he likes the setup, so going into it I was just trying to not overthink the first round, and just be happy with whatever result and just keep learning with him.” VanderVeen added, “He was flying, and that’s maybe the best I've felt with him. The control felt just right, and I was able to stay soft so he could express himself!”

Four of the 15 trips qualified for the jump off. “It's a bit bigger this week being a three star, and we have Nick [Granat] here building. I think for everybody, it was a bit of an eye-opener to do a real 1.50 meter. We have another big spec for Saturday night at a 1.55 meter, and I haven't done that with him [Bull Run’s Celestial] yet, so we'll just see what the feeling is then.”
