Tryon International Launches Tryon Athletics Program

Record-Breaking Performances and Growing Schedule

Mill Spring, N.C. — March 5th, 2026

Tryon International is proud to announce the continued expansion and early success of its Tryon Athletics program, a new multi-sport initiative anchored by its state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility. Since opening, the program has already delivered record-breaking performances, strong attendance, and growing demand from athletes, schools, and event organizers across the region. Designed to support elite competition while remaining accessible to community and youth programs, Tryon Athletics reflects Tryon International’s long-term commitment to sport, lifestyle, and regional partnership.

“Our goal with Tryon Athletics is to create a premier venue that serves both high-level competition and the broader athletic community,” said Eric Gilbert, Director of Tryon Athletics. “The results we’ve seen in just our first season show that this facility is already making a meaningful impact.”

Record-Breaking Performances

Since opening, the Tryon Athletics facility has hosted multiple meets that have produced standout performances at the state and national level.

Highlights include:

Cameron Tucker (J.M. Robinson High School, Concord, NC) - 300 meters in 33.21 seconds, the fastest time in North Carolina this season and at the time the #2 all-time performance in U.S. high school history, trailing only Olympic athlete Quincy Wilson.
Charlize-Trinity McKenzie - 1500 meters in 4:36.90.
Zhoe Holt - Girls 400 meters in 58.73, currently the fastest time in the state.

In addition to these standout performances, the facility has already recorded:

785 personal bests set this season
458 facility records broken
More than 34,000 athletes and 95,500 spectators hosted across events

Conference Records at the 2026 Big South Championships

Tryon Athletics also hosted the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 27–28, 2026, where multiple conference records were set.

Women’s highlights included:

Alyssa Hendrix (High Point) — 5,000 meters in 16:27.66• Charleston Southern — 4x400 relay in 3:38.85 (Conference All-Time Record)• Chloe Greene (Charleston Southern) — Pentathlon, 3,725 points• Jeylah Hamrick (Radford) — 400 meters in 52.92 (Conference All-Time Record)• Maeva Tahou (Charleston Southern) — Long jump, 6.31m / 20-8.5 (Conference All-Time Record)

Men’s highlights included:

Shemarr Session (UNC Asheville) — 200 meters in 20.82• Camerin Williams (High Point) — 800 meters in 1:49.49• High Point University — 4x400 relay in 3:11.14• Alex Constantinou (High Point) — High jump, 2.18m / 7-1.75• High Point University — Distance medley relay in 9:54.14• Quentin Peterson (Gardner-Webb) — Shot put, 20.10m / 65-11.5 (Conference All-Time Record)• Reid Holloway (High Point) — Pole vault, 5.31m / 17-5• Cole Wilson (High Point) — Heptathlon, 5,705 points (Conference All-Time Record)• Justin Sluijter (High Point) — Long jump, 7.89m / 25-10.75 (Conference All-Time Record)

2026 Season and Booking Opportunities

Building on its successful launch, Tryon Athletics is now working on its 2027 competition schedule, with additional dates and events being added. Event organizers, schools, clubs, and athletic associations are encouraged to explore booking opportunities for future meets, training events, and multi-day competitions.
