August at Tryon International is full of fun for families, groups, kids, equestrian enthusiasts and more. From fitness events and competitions to live music, sporting events, and indoor fun to help you stay cool this summer, there’s something for everyone at Tryon International! 

Live Music:

August is packed with incredible live music for enthusiasts of all ages and genres. Weekly live music is hosted in the Silver Spoon Saloon, from local favorites to special guests and more. Find upcoming events on our events calendar! Hosted August 8th, Conway, Cash & The King will take place at The Summit on the third floor of the International Pavilion. A special tribute to Johnny Cash by Mark Gagnon, Conway Twitty by Doug Thompson, and Elvis Presley by Stephen Freeman, this trip down memory lane will bring to life your favorite classic hits from each legendary performer! This special one night only event, presented by ONE 13 and Echoes Of A Legend, features VIP tickets for $40/person or GA tickets for $30/person. Learn more here!

The iconic Earl Scruggs Music Festival returns August 29-31, featuring the best of bluegrass, Americana and roots music. Named in honor of the legendary Earl Scruggs, the Cleveland County native who became the most influential and imitated banjo player in the world, the multi-day celebration spotlights the rich musical culture of the region. Featuring Alison Krauss & Union Station, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Del McCoury Band, Sam Bush, Watchhouse, The Earls of Leicester, Sierra Hull, and many more. Tickets available here!

Sporting Events:

For fitness fiends and sports fans alike, August is host to numerous athletic events at Tryon International. Spartan Race Weekend returns August 2-3, featuring a 5K, 10K, and kids sprint races with thrilling obstacles along the way. Learn more and register here! 

The Innova Disc Golf Tournament returns to Tryon International August 16-17. New to 2025, pay to play for non-competitors runs August 12-15 and is $10/player! Registered tournament competitors have the option to play both courses free of charge Friday, August 15th. Two courses, Glades Course and Lake Course - each with 18 holes, all divisions will play both courses. The courses will be set up all week so you can check them out ahead of the event. Portuguese Water Dog Trials come to Tryon International, August 16th and 17th from 9am-3pm! Join us and watch these amazing working dogs demonstrate how they helped fishermen hundreds of years ago, from land to boat and boat to boat. These trials host beginning Junior level up to Master level. Spectators will enter on 2659 Sandy Plains Rd, Tryon. Park and walk back to the lake. More details available here!

The “Get This Party Started” Friday Night Cross Country Run showcases men's and women's relays for high school teams on August 22nd. More details available here. The same weekend also hosts the Dark Horse Ultra Race, August 23. Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k trail races are available, with registration and further details available here.

Horse Shows and Schooling Opportunities:

August hosts three horse shows at Tryon International across multiple disciplines, as a precursor to the jam-packed Fall Series presented by Coca-Cola that kicks off in September. The Tryon Summer Finale kicks off hosted August 8-10 and features Hunter, Jumper and Equitation competition. The same weekend also hosts Tryon Summer Dressage 3&4 presented by Cedar Direct, with Dressage competition taking place in Rings 6/7.

Later in the month, Lewis Pack brings the Harmon Classics Summer Finale, a local-level Hunter/Jumper show, to the venue for August 15-17. As always, horse show competitions are free and open to the public for spectators. 

Tryon Stadium will be open for schooling throughout the Earl Scruggs Music Festival on August 29th-31st from 10am-2pm. There will be Hunter and Jumper jumps included each day, providing a fabulous opportunity to practice in a show environment before the start of the Tryon Fall Series! NEW Evening Schooling Jumper Shows will continue through October 27th EVERY Monday from 2:30-8:00pm, with the exception of August 25th and September 1st. Silver Spoon Saloon Weekly Events: 

Join us at the Silver Spoon Saloon EVERY week for these evenings of fun! Bring your brainiest friends, grab a drink, and let the games begin for Trivia Tuesdays from 7-9pm with Tryon International’s own Joshua Orvin! Test your music knowledge from 6:30-8:30pm during Music Bingo Wednesdays! Your host Emma Neal will be spinning your favorite tunes for this musical take on the classic game. Pull on your boots and come tear up the dance floor every Friday for free Line Dancing lessons from 8-9pm, and stay from 9pm-12am to put your new skills to the test with weekly Line Dancing and Karaoke!
