Portuguese Water Dog Trial at Tryon International

  • Tryon International 25 International Boulevard Mill Spring, NC, 28756 United States (map)

A Portuguese Water Dog Trial comes to Tryon International August 16th and 17th from 9am to 3pm. Come join us to watch these amazing working dogs having fun demonstrating how they helped fishermen hundreds of years ago, from land to boat and boat to boat. The trial shows beginning Junior level up to Master level.

Long ago, Portuguese Water Dogs lived on working fishing boats where they were taught to retrieve nets or other items and to courier items from boat to boat or to shore. The dogs were required to be excellent swimmers, seafarers and capable of diving underwater to retrieve fishing gear. Constant swimming and working with the fishermen is a result of the remarkable muscular development of their hindquarters. These dogs have exceptional intelligence and loyal companionship to their owners.

Spectators will enter on 2659 Sandy Plains Rd, Tryon. Park and walk back to the lake.
