Jessica Stamatakis and Jet Stream K Soar to Victory in $1,000 Open Hunter Derby

April 6, 2024 – Besting a field of twenty-five teams, Jessica Stamatakis (Rougemont, NC) and Jet Stream K (Cantos x Unexpectable) started their Saturday off with a win in the $1,000 Open Derby. Riding for owner Ashley Hodges, Stamatakis and the 2005 Dutch Warmblood gelding scored 85 points in the derby’s Hunt N Go format for the win. Close behind the winning pair, Kate Namey (Knoxville, TN) rode her own ARD Daulton (Clover Flush x Lady Dunton), the 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding, to 83 points to claim reserve in the derby. Aboard Alternatively (Allocate Your Assets x Shes Miss California), Jamie Rowland (Clemson, SC) rode Molly Massengill’s 2014 Appendix Quarter Horse gelding to third, collecting 82 points.

Jessica Stamatakis had nothing but praise for the 19-year-old Jet Stream K after the team’s win. According to Stamatakis, “Jet” “is the barn favorite. He's an old soul…he's very genuine, forgiving, and loves his job.”

“I love him so much. His nickname at the barn is “Mr. Perfect”, and I don't think anything could suit him more!” Stamatakis said of Jet, her partner since 2022.

The derby course designed by Archer “Skip” Bailey rode smoothly and allowed Stamatakis and her horse to exhibit their strengths in the show arena. “We really enjoyed the course; he was able to show off how amazing he is. It was a great start to the day,” Stamatakis recapped.

After her success in Tryon International’s Welcome Series, Stamatakis plans to return to compete in the fall. “I love showing at Tryon! It's just such an immense privilege, everything is so well thought out and perfectly put into place,” she shared. “I am really blessed to have the opportunity to show here.”

Leasing Jet Stream K from owner Ashley Hodges, Stamatakis shared her gratitude towards everyone involved in the partnership. “I’m grateful for [Ashley Hodges] allowing me to lease such a special, once in a lifetime horse. I’m planning on just riding this out. I'm going to continue to savor and enjoy every moment with this special guy, continuing to learn and grow each ride, and hopefully do well the rest of the show season.”

“I would like to thank my parents, Nick and Deborah Stamatakis, my sister Julia, my trainers Nick Stewart and Emma Fogler-Stewart, and Jet’s owner Ashley Hodges for their unwavering love and support and making all this possible for me,” Stamatakis concluded.
