Leyla Caynak for Tryon International

Ken Krome designed a difficult course for the $50,000 Henri De Rivel Tryon Duke Jump For The Children Grand Prix, with six riders qualifying for the jump off and only two teams going double clear. The fastest of those two was Richie Moloney (Wellington, FL) and Ermes Di Tai (Canturano x Vittoria Di Tai). It was Taylor Land (Atlanta, GA) and Kim Land’s 2009 Holsteiner gelding Caballero (Casall x Ricarda I) who secured second place with the only other clear round in the speed round. Fernando Cardenas Sr’s 2015 Warmblood gelding Fano Car (Dianant D'heure ABF x Ursula Car) and Fernando Cardenas (New Hill, NC) were the fastest of the jump off four faulters, and completed the class podium.

The 2014 Selle Francais gelding with Richie Moloney in the saddle produced the fastest round for the win, as the third to last in the order of go. Moloney was confident after their first round, “The first round was good, my horse jumped very well! He's [Ermes Di Tai] in a good place at the moment and feeling very comfortable.”

However, getting ready for the speed round they encountered a small setback, but it did not affect their overall strategy. “I pulled a shoe in the warm up, so I had to do an extra few jumps more than I wanted” Moloney detailed.

Moloney and his team are frequent flyers at Tryon International, “It's a lovely show to do, and good fun!” New to the Duke Show’s, being hosted for the first time at Tryon International, he enjoyed his week.
